WHAT IS DOT MEDICAL EXAM?

What is DOT Medical Exam?

A Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination is mandatory for commercial vehicle drivers, ensuring they are physically, mentally, and emotionally fit for this role.

Who should undergo this examination?

The DOT examination is required if you:

✅ Drive a vehicle designed to transport more than 15 people;

✅ Receive compensation for driving a vehicle carrying more than 8 passengers;

✅ Transport hazardous materials requiring specific signage on your vehicle;

✅ Drive a vehicle on the interstate highway with a combined gross weight, vehicle gross weight, or combined gross weight exceeding 10,000 pounds.

What does the examination involve?

"During the DOT examination, we'll conduct a thorough evaluation of your medical history, in addition to the physical examination. The physician will perform a comprehensive test of your health, including urine tests, vision and hearing tests, blood pressure measurement, among other procedures. These results might indicate the need for further tests to identify potential medical issues, as recommended by your physician. Other tests may be requested depending on the medical assessment conducted."
